The vineyards of the Ningxia Hansen Mountain Wine Grape Planting Base, which have been cultivated since 2013, are located in the Luoshan Mountains of the Hongsibao District of the Ningxia Autonomous Region. The director of the vineyards, Gao Guoping, told reporters today: “When I arrived here, all I could see were barren mountains with no grass growing. After seven years of cultivation, the desert has now turned into an oasis. Vineyards, this will be the future of Chinese wine.”
Located in the eastern foothills of the Helan Mountains, it has unique natural and terroir conditions. The temperature differences between day and night and the absence of pests and diseases make it a high-quality organic desert farming area and one of the few pollution-free agricultural and ecological areas in China.
The grape industry brings not only ecological but also economic benefits. Local farmers manage 3600 mu growing wine grapes on behalf of Chateau Hansen. Hansen provides basic technical guidance and training for farmers. The farmer’s income consists of a basic wage plus a production bonus wage. Based on the average yield of 800 kilograms per mu and 2 workers per household, the average household income can reach 50,000 to 60,000 RMB.
“With this contract model, vineyard planting will ultimately achieve the goals of ecological greening, corporate profits and farmers’ income increase,” says Gao Guoping.
